Travelers’ Rest State Park, located near Lolo, has a full September lineup of free public events and is hosting the annual fundraiser for the park’s nonprofit partner. See the full lineup of details below.
September 5: Lolo Reconnected and Lewis and Clark anniversary celebration
Visit the park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for an anniversary celebration of the Lewis and Clark Expedition on the Lolo Trail. Visitors will enjoy free activities, including guided tours of the park, hands-on history demonstrations, a journaling workshop, ornament making, and more. The journaling workshop is in partnership with Missoula Writers' Collective and registration is required at https://secure.qgiv.com/for/writersroom/event/writersroom2026/. September 11: Fundraising event for Travelers’ Rest Connection
Attend a unique annual fundraising event, “A Taste of the 19th Century,” hosted by Travelers' Rest Connection, the state park’s nonprofit partner. The event raises funds to support educational programs like school field trips and public programming at the state park. The event includes a dinner of Lewis and Clark Expedition-inspired cuisine from A Moveable Feast catering and drinks from Lolo Peak Brewing and Lolo Creek Distillery. Visit with demonstrators to learn more about the park and its unique history, bid in a live auction, and more. September 12: Bison hide demonstration
Drop by from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to meet anthropologist and interpreter Billy Maxwell as he discusses the different uses of bison hides and demonstrates how hides were prepared as tipi covers by tribes in the 18th and 19th centuries.
September 20: Creekside concert
Join in the last of the summer’s Sunday Creekside Concert series from 3-4:30 p.m. Ednor Therriault's good friend Bob Wire brings his blend of rootsy rock, traditional country, rockabilly and blues, glued together with humor and fun. This event is free to attend and open to all ages. Bring something to sit on, bug spray, and your favorite beverage (no glass containers, please).
September 26: Bear aware event and kids’ program
Drop by from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a free bear aware public event. Refresh on bear safety tips, practice with inert bear spray cans, and connect with local experts. This free, family-friendly event has a variety of drop-in booths and activities. The “Trekker Kids” program series also returns for the fall season with a bear-themed kids’ program at 11 a.m. Learn about bear habitat and behaviors, followed by a beary cool craft. Weekly Saturday “Trekker Kids” programs are free to attend and welcome children age four and up and their families. Email Luke Crews (luke.crews@mt.gov) for more information.
