FOUR CORNERS, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is announcing and inviting the public to comment on a proposal that will reconstruct about half a mile of US Highway 191 (US 191) south of Four Corners. The project begins just south of Huffine Lane and ends near Arctic Spas Bozeman, just past 2nd Street.
Proposed work includes replacing the Lower Middle Creek (LMC) Supply Ditch Structure with a box culvert to widen the roadway and accommodate a two-way left-turn lane (TWLTL), matching the roadway width to the north and south of the project area. A seal and cover (chip seal), upgraded pavement markings, and new signage and guardrail will also be included in this project. The purpose of the project is to enhance roadway safety features and improve traffic operations.
Construction is tentatively planned for 2028 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. Right-of-way acquisition or temporary construction permits will likely be required for this project. Relocation of utilities may also be necessary. MDT staff will contact affected landowners prior to survey work. Landowners may be contacted again prior to construction regarding temporary permits.
Partnering with the community is an important part of properly planning for future projects. MDT welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Butte office, PO Box 3068, Butte, MT 59702-3068. Please note that comments are for project UPN 10273000.
The public is encouraged to contact Butte District Project Development Engineer Brandon Jones at 406-494-9622 or Project Design Engineer Anita Mathews at 406-494-9636 with questions or comments about the project.
