HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College women's soccer team wrapped up its nonconference slate with its first win of the young season, topping NCAA Division III Whitworth (Wash.) on Sunday morning at Nelson Stadium.
The Fighting Saints (1-2-2) came into Sunday morning's tilt with the Pirates (1-1) looking to build a little momentum with Cascade Collegiate Conference play on the horizon later this week. After controlling the action throughout, they finally found their breakthrough in the 69th minute off the foot of Rachel McAllister (Brier, Wash. / JR).
McAllister, who had multiple opportunities turned away earlier in the match, managed to push past Whitworth's back line, catching up to a beautifully placed pass from Carmen Anderson (Missoula, Mont. / JR). Gathering control near the top of the box, McAllister put a shot to the far post that would beat the keeper and prove to be the game's only goal.
While the scoreboard might not have reflected it, Carroll controlled the match from start to finish. The Saints spent much of the morning in the attacking third, outshooting the Pirates 23-3 on the day.
