HOUSTON, Texas -- Montana Tech's men's basketball team took the floor against one of the top college basketball teams in the nation Thursday evening, dropping a 110-53 exhibition game at NCAA Division I University of Houston.
The Orediggers got a team-high 12 points from sophomore Asher Williams, while senior Justin Asi contributed 11 points and a team-best five rebounds. Elijah Groves added nine points for Montana Tech.
The contest was made possible by Houston head coach and Montana Tech hall of famer Kelvin Sampson. Sampson was the Orediggers' head coach from 1981-85, leading Montana Tech to three-straight Frontier Conference championships from 1983-85.
It was the third such exhibition between the two programs; Houston won the previous two matchups in 2015 and 2021.
Montana Tech, which has reached five straight NAIA national tournaments, will begin the 2026-27 regular season Friday, October 30 against The College of Idaho at the Montana Western Classic in Dillon.
