BUTTE -- Montana Tech's volleyball team got back in the win column Friday evening with a 25-18, 25-22, 13-25, 25-15 win over visiting Dakota State inside Valley Bank Arena.
Maezie Dodson led the way for the Oredigger offense with 17 kills, Halle Moomaw added 13, and Rhys Layton contributed 41 assists and three aces.
The Orediggers (18-5, 13-4 Frontier Conference) started out hot, hitting .400 in the opening set. Moomaw and Dodson had five kills apiece in the opener.
Tech then made it a 2-0 lead with a gritty second set, but the Orediggers struggled in the third. Montana Tech hit just .057 in the set.
In the fourth, Montana Tech found its form again. Dodson capped her evening with six more kills in the clincher, and the Orediggers finished off the match with a 5-0 run, including back-to-back Layton aces to end it.
Tristyn Maras paced Dakota State (14-9, 11-6) with 14 kills and a pair of aces.
Between sets, Montana Tech unveiled its championship banner for the women's basketball program's Frontier Conference tournament title last winter.
The Oredigger volleyball team, winners of four of its last five, will take the court again Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. against 12th-ranked and conference-leading Bellevue.
