Saints women finish 2nd, men 5th at Butte XC invite
Butte, Mont. – Carroll College cross country competed on Thursday afternoon at the Butte Cross Country Invitational.
Despite the Saints resting their top scorers from last weekend's meet in Missoula, the women placed second to NCAA Division II MSU Billings by only four points. All five scorers for Carroll placed in the top 10 individually at the meet. Ellie Baxter came in first for the Saints, followed by Ella Menard, Ruthanne Arthun, Emma Horspool and Aundra Passmore. It was a personal record for Horspool at 6k and the first time racing the distance for the other members of the scoring five.
Scotty McIntyre was the top placer for the Carroll men in 22nd. Colter Anderson set a personal record over 8k, placing 25th, while fellow freshmen Zach Boroff and Mack Boyd executed strong debuts over the new distance.
"It ended up being a warm afternoon for running, but the athletes still showed up engaged and competitive throughout both races," said head coach Shannon Flynn. "Multiple individuals took some great steps forward, and it was fun to see teammates working together within the races."
Carroll will travel a group of athletes to Oregon next week for the Charles Bowles Invitational, where they will compete against multiple nationally ranked NAIA programs from the Cascade Conference.
