COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. - The Carroll women's soccer team picked up a critical three points on Friday afternoon with a 4-0 shutout victory over Walla Walla.
The Fighting Saints (5-3-6, 4-1-4) solidified their chances of returning the upcoming CCC Championship next month, cruising to a dominant 4-0 win over the Wolves (0-9-1, 0-8-1).
Carroll entered the weekend eighth in the league standings, knotted up with two other teams at 13 points. Friday's win over Walla Walla jumped the Saints all the way up to a tie for fourth on the league table, with a game still to play this weekend.
The Saints wasted little time getting out to a lead on Friday, as Carmen Anderson (Missoula, Mont. / JR) opened the scoring in the eighth minute with her second of the season.
Anderson contributed to the game's second goal as well, providing an assist on Rachel McAllister's (Brier, Wash. / JR) 23rd-minute goal. McAllister's team-leading sixth goal of the year doubled the Carroll advantage at 2-0, but she wouldn't stop there.
Three-time First Team All-Conference defender Avery Lambourne (Billings, Mont. / SR) got in on the first-half fun as well. Lambourne scored her first goal of the season in the 31st minute to give the Saints a healthy 3-0 lead at the break.
McAllister put the nail in the coffin in the 58th minute. The junior's second goal of the afternoon came off an assist from Samantha Patch (Liberty Lake, Wash. / SO) giving Carroll a four-goal lead that would prove plenty enough.
The pitch was slanted heavily in Carroll's favor all afternoon, as the Saints put up 35 shots to just three by the Wolves.
Maria Ackerman (Billings, Mont. / SR) and Allison Olson (Lewiston, Idaho / JR) each got one half of work, combining for the Carroll shutout.
The Saints have a travel day on deck tomorrow, before wrapping up their road slate on Sunday morning against Warner Pacific in Portland.
